North Rim - Wild Rye
With all of the natural beauty, high design standards, and breathtaking views afforded in North Rim, we’re excited to get going on another home there. North Rim has very strict requirements in regards to tree removal, which makes siting the home to take full advantage of the view corridors extremely critical. This home is for a couple of snowbirds who appreciate the clean lines, strong horizontality, expanses of glass, and use of wood common in Northwest Contemporary designs. Spencer Williams designed the home on an upsloping lot with an abundance of stone to anchor the home visually to the site and to break up relatively tall walls facing the street. The horizontality of the home is accentuated with ipe screen walls, horizontal Dutch ship lap cedar siding and long, low-slope, standing seam metal roofs. The home features high clerestory windows and skylights to allow more indirect lighting, keeping the home well-lit while managing the sun throughout the day. The North Westerly windows will be tinted glass to allow the light and view while blocking the sun. Although on a sloping lot, the home is a single level with no steps, allowing for aging in place or accommodating the occasional injury that is common with all of the outdoor activities Central Oregon has to offer. The full width deck on the view side of the home will feature a covered Outdoor Kitchen with space for a table as well as an eating bar, a built-in stone-faced fire pit, and a built-in planter. The deck is also reinforced to allow for substantial canister planting to add seasonal color and support complete flexibility in layout. The timing on this home works out well, breaking ground in March 2020.
